David von Krafft, konstnär, målare, född 1655 i Hamburg, död 1724 i Stockholm. David von Krafft blev kallad till Sverige 1675 av hofkonterfejaren (hovmålaren) David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl, som dessutom var hans morbror och nu även blev hans lärare i den ädla konsten att måla. Senare studerade von Krafft vidare ett tiotal år i utlandet, särskilt i Italien, slutligen blev han Ehrenstrahls ersättare som hovmålare. Nu fick han en massa beställningar och uppdrag och han målade sakliga och säkert tecknade porträtt, som tyvärr dock är ganska entoniga och kalla i koloriten. Bland hans bästa arbeten är porträttet av Karl XII (finns i Lund) samt av Carl Gustaf Armfeldt d.ä. (Drottningholms slott). I Kalmar domkyrka har han målat altartavlan (dock efter en komposition av en italiensk konstnär). David von Krafft finns representerad vid Nationalmuseum, Malmö Museum, Göteborgs konstmuseum och på Gripsholm. Italian Early Renaissance Painter, 1406-1486
Naldini, Giovanni Battista
Italian, 1537-91 was an Italian painter of a late-Mannerism in Florence. His first apprenticeship (1549-57) was in the studio of Jacopo Pontormo. He went from Rome for a number of months following 1560, and was recruited to work for Giorgio Vasari in 1562. He painted two crowded, mannerist canvas for the Studiolo of Francesco I in the Palazzo Vecchio: the Allegory of Dreams and the Gathering of Ambergris. He supplied altarpieces to Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce. He painted an altarpiece of Calling of Saint Matthew for the Salviati Chapel in San Marco, where he worked alongside Francesco Morandini. Ultimately, he is aptly described by Freedberg as displaying work distantly derivative from the style of Andrea del Sarto, as expressed by Naldini's two mentors and Sarto's two pupils: Pontormo and Vasari.
George Benjamin Luks
(August 13, 1867-October 29, 1933) was an American realist artist and illustrator. His vigorously painted genre paintings of urban subjects are examples of the Ashcan school in American art. Luks was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to Central European immigrants. His father was a physician and his mother was an amateur painter and musician.The Luks family (George, his parents and five siblings) eventually moved to Pottsville, in Southern Pennsylvania near the coal fields. In this setting, he learned at a young age the importance of compassion by watching how his parents helped the coal miners' families, and many believe that this is the reason why lower class New Yorkers were often Luks's subject matter. Luks studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts before he traveled though Europe where he attended several art schools. Later he went to Desseldorf where he lived with a distant relative, a retired lion-tamer. He abandoned Desseldorf for the more stimulating spheres of London and Paris. He then returned to Philadelphia in 1893 where he was an illustrator for the Philadelphia Press where he met John Sloan, William Glackens, and Everett Shinn. They would meet at the studio of Robert Henri, an artist who emphasized the depiction of ordinary life, shunning genteel subjects and painting quickly. The group became known as the "Philadelphia Five". In 1896, Luks moved to New York and began his art career there as the premier humorist artist for the New York World. During his time as an illustrator there, he lived with William Glackens.
